Creamy Sauerkraut Dip – Naturally Fermented

Cultured foods play an essential part in a healthy digestive system, and it is vital that more people consume them for their overall health.

Now I know that not everyone loves fermented sauerkraut as much as I do, so with this in mind, I began to brainstorm how to get more individuals to eat sauerkraut.  (Okay, just for the record I genuinely enjoy getting creative)

One day I ended up with more cream cheese than I needed, and I became inspired…

Simple and Delicious Creamy Sauerkraut Dip

Gather the following:

  • 8 oz. organic cream cheese (or homemade)
  • 1 cup naturally fermented sauerkraut
  • 2 to 5 tbs. brine from fermented jalapeno pepper
  • Optional: finely chopped fermented jalapeno peppers to taste

Combine the above ingredients, then serve with crackers, veggies or freshly baked sourdough bread pieces.  The recipe is best if you allow the dip to sit in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. We want those flavors to blend!

For this recipe, you can use any flavor sauerkraut, but of course, I used my favorite (a combination of cabbage, daikon radish, apple, and onion). By changing the type of kraut, the flavor of your dip will change as well.

The first time I made this dip, the attendees at a class finished off the entire bowl. I’m surprised someone didn’t start licking the bowl! (okay, that was funny).  With this in mind, I knew this recipe would always be a hit.

Since then, I have shared it at several classes and decided to share with all of you, in hopes you’ll share it with your family and friends as well!

*Here’s a hint: Don’t even tell them it is fermented.  You will be amazed at how many people will want to try it.

To your health and wellbeing, happy fermenting!
