Lemonade with a twist – Ferment it!

What you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6 to 8)
  • 1/2 cup organic cane sugar or Rapadura
  • 1/2 cup whey
  • 7 cups of filtered water
  • Half gallon glass container


  1. Add all ingredients to the glass container
  2. Shake well  to dissolve the sugar
  3. Leave the capped container on the counter for 2 to 3 days
  4. Move the container to the refrigerator
  5. Serve cold or over ice.

This beverage was a hit with both adults and children at the Summer Beverage class.

  1. Where do you get whey from? Is it okay to use spring water?

      Great questions. You can get whey from yogurt. Yes, spring water is fine to use. Happy Fermenting.
